Yes, you are right. And I guess that is why I have never felt disabled by my lack of visual imagination. I was simply unaware it existed. Of course, once I found out that some people could create situations in their mind's eye, rewind them or go forward, turn things around and look at them from different sides, I felt genuinely jealous. I wish I could do that. But I learned to imagine using language - something that writers have to learn in general, one way or another.
